What to do with leftover prasad?

What to do with leftover prasad?

Hare Krishna, dandavats pranaam,

We are a group of devotees in US trying to spread Chaitanya mahaprabhu's mercy. We conduct open programs every 15 days and also festivals. we cook prasadam based on approximate number of attendees and sometimes have to deal with large amounts of leftover prasadam even after distributing to all devotees.we do eat it the second day and sometimes third day and it still remains.we also have to cook fresh food every day for our Gaur Nitai deities. is it okay to dispose of the leftover prasadam in such a situation? i feel extremelly guilty doing it :(

What is the need to dispose it off? Cook new food for Gaura-Nitai and you all eat the old prasadam. Honor the new prasadam a little bit and primarily finish off the old one. Devotees such as Srila Raghunatha Dasa Goswami subsisted on spoilt left overs. He showed the value of even spoilt prasadam. Never throw away any prasadam, or wait too long that it spoils.

Even if spoilt, don't trash it as garbage. It came from bhumi, and must go back into bhumi. The microorganisms in the soil that feed on it will attain human births. But don't be too compassionate and feed it to someone's dog. They may sue you or jail you for dog poisoning. Exercise intelligence.

Hari Bol.

Govinda Valley in Sydney ran into the same issues as you have and they asked Hari-Sauri Dasa for an answer. You can read his answer here.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Thank you VRK pr and Gopikrishna pr for your responses.Common sense as suggested by HariSauri Pr in his letter seems to be the only practical answer to my query .we have already been practising what VRK pr suggested-unfortunately we dont have any land of our own to bury leftover prasad and dont want to invite trouble trying to dump it elsewhere or in some lake ...

BTW by Krishna's mercy never felt compassionate enough to feed american dogs :) miss the cow's in Mumbai though

Hari Hari Bol
