Health Issues for Ekadasi fasting

Postby DBB » Wed Jun 23, 2010 5:49 pm

Hare Krishna!

I have severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease and suffering from ulcerative colitis and can not eat fruits, milk, spicy and oily stuffs. Only soft rice, plain daal and simple curry is good for me. So, for me fasting on Ekadasis is a real challenge. If I do not eat at specific time intervals, my stomach badly rumbles and gas builds up. Due to this problem, I had to eat non-grains things even on Nirjala Ekadasi.

Are some of you also suffering from IBD related cases? If so, how do you observe the Ekadasi the Ekadasi fasting without ruining your stomach?

Others also, if you could give some suggestion, that could help.

Thank you. Durga Basnet

Hare Krsna.

The main principle for following Ekadashis is to develop deeper love for Sri Sri Radha & Krishna through chanting, hearing etc...

Though the devotess sholud avoid grains during the ekadashi fast, Only in rare cases, those who are physically unable to fast may take grains on Ekadasi, but then only with the explicit permission of their guru.

So an appropriate way would be to have ekadashi food item and concentrate more on hearing and chanting of the lords name. this may also applicable on the nirajala ekadasi day if it is physically / healthly not possible.

Also request you to access the below mentioned link to have more info on Ekadasi (observance, prasadam etc..):
