Q. If someone is PG,and he chooses obstetrics & gynacology, is it ok ? But while doing PG, we have to do abortions. Is it against the principles or should we just do our work and offer the fruits to LORD KRISHNA?

A. Performing abortions for the sake of not wanting a child is certainly against the principles of Krishna consciousness. Lord Krishna explains in Srimad Bhagavad-Gita (7.11) “I am * life which is not contrary to religious principles” Srila Prabhupada elaborates, “* life, according to religious principles (dharma), should be for the propagation of children, not otherwise. The responsibility of parents is to make their offspring Krishna conscious”.

In today’s modern world this principle is forgotten and therefore different techniques are developed to remove the unwanted babies in the womb and this goes in the name of “tissue removal”. Also, because of lack of proper knowledge of scriptures in today’s educational system, youth of the society are not given proper training to regulate their senses. If someone performs * which is outside of the marriage, it results in unwanted population. Usually, the performer of such acts does not want to take the responsibility of such progeny. Therefore, one is forced to take the help of these techniques.

Sometimes, a woman may be carrying babies more than the capacity. In such cases if there is danger to the life of mother, it is advised to go for abortion. If a girl is molested, then she may not be willing to bring forth the child in this world. In such cases also abortion is performed. Therefore, it is required to go to the root cause of the problem and give proper training to control their senses to today’s modern youth.

As regards taking this as PG course, you may learn it. However, the knowledge may be applied for the above cases mentioned and not for making money.
