Qualifications of an ideal teacher

Q. What are the qualifications of an ideal teacher ?

A. Lord Chaitanya said that a teacher should behave properly before he begins teaching. One who teaches in that way is called aachaarya, or the ideal teacher. Therefore, a teacher must follow the principles of saastra (Scripture) to teach the common man. The teacher cannot manufacture rules against the principles of revealed scriptures.

Only a God realized person can be a guru...or else a havoc is all that awaits in the ambush....

Unless, a person himself has not realized God, he cannot be Guru, as he cannot make someone realize higher than he might have realized.

Lord Chaitanya has said that "kibā vipra, kibā nyāsi, śudra kena naya‚ jei śrī Kṛṣṇa tattva vetta, sei guru haya..." CC-II-8.128

The caste and creed are irrelevant the Guru should have realized ŚrīKṛṣṇa tattva.

Śrīla Prabhupāda has further revealed that the souls, who preach the Science by Āchāryas are Gurus, as it is and without adding any personal tone or color. But it is really naive to believe anyone that innocent to broadcast that divine message as it is.

The Vedas have revealed that the Guru should be both śrotriyam or thorough with theoretical knowledge of all the brances of Vedic Encyclopedia and also brahmniṣṭha or God-realized. (Muṇḍka Upaniṣad 1.2.12)

and of the both, the second condition is imperative.

The reason why the Vedic civilization has been degrading is because ignorant and naive folks accept unauthentic and crowd pleasing magicians or fake renunciants as gurus.

It is good to learn from someone established on higher spiritual platform but we cannot consider himself tobe our Guru. As one cannot distinguish between Guru and The God. Guru's is not a special but a unique place in a soul's spiritual life.

Hare Kṛṣṇa....
