Question: What About the Extinct Species?

Hare Krishna,

In the Puranas, it is said that there are 8,400,000 species. I would like to know whether anything has been said in Srimad Bhagavatam about the extinction of some species. We know very well that a few species are not existing now.

Answer: No Species is Extinct

Just because we do not see certain species does not mean that they are extinct. Our spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, has stated, "Nothing is extinct." This means that somewhere within the universe each of the 8,400,000 species is continuing without interruption. We have been transmigrating through these 8,400,000 species again and again since time immemorial. So now we should take this human form of life most seriously and dedicate it fully for going back to home, back to Godhead.
