Question: Can Real Love Exist in this World?

Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances.
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I have one question. Real love means to try to please another person even if I have to go through so many uncomfortable situations to my body or mind. We also learn that Krishna is the unique receptacle of love. So can there exist real love between two ordinary persons in this material world if they both have the real understanding of love?

Your servant,

Bhakta Ignacio.

Answer: If Krishna is the Center

Real love can exist between two persons in this world only if they make Krishna or God the center of that love. If we don't make God the center, this means that on some level we will still consider ourselves to be the center of the relationship. This means that we will engage in the loving relationship on the basis of what we can get out of the other person rather than what we can give to the other person by helping them to reconnect with Krishna. The other person will have also the same tendency to value the relationship on the basis of what they can get out of us. It is because of this underlying self-centeredness that love relationships in this world are difficult and often end in bitter divorce and sometimes even in ghastly murder scenes. The simple solution is to put Krishna or God in the center of our loving relationships. In this way all of these relationships will become perfect and this material world will be transformed into the spiritual world.
